9/16/2016: Friday Escape to Mt. Mitchell to avoid the oppressive heat. The cloud deck obscured most views, unfortunately. Photo-bombed by a couple Carolinians...
Next to Elisha Mitchell's grave. First time visiting without a bicycle, which I found much easier by car.
My usual dorky self, but Yvonne looks divine (as always).
After lunch and my first sweet tea in years, found a nice place to rock.
Dovetail joinery on the park buildings was quite impressive.

The mountain's namesake.
9/17/2017: Saturday at Hagood Mill in Pickens, SC. This is the real deal roots music that I miss so much.
Penny and Jerry fit in like natives... because they're natives.
The park has a working grist mill.
I don't think that banjo player arrived in this, but it would seem to fit.
Detailed look at the Dodge Brothers truck.
Corn and flour being ground while kids entertain themselves at the mill.
Possibly Yvonne and Trish's first piglet experience. Interesting adjectives were used to describe how bad the thing smelled.
Scenic spot away from the music stage to avoid the sun and HUMIDITY.
Really slow getting the competition started. We saw little fiddling since banjo and gee-tar categories came first.
Hot afternoon to be picking on stage. Good stuff.
Stage decoration to set the flavor -- as if that was even necessary.
Impressed with the kids in the various categories. Some real talent mixed in there.
This was just the first board listing performers. I couldn't handle the heat and missed most fiddling.
Mesmerized by this girl's far away look. She played well -- and confidently.
Pickin' (not so much grinnin')
Cute kids who seemed to enjoy their music barefoot.
9/18/2016: Sunday morning at Donaldson to photograph Penny and Jerry cycling.
Penny gets ready to roll...
... and lends a hand to Jerry with a wonky buckle. This sums up Penny to me: Always there for Jerry 100%. She's an amazing person.
Penny just photographs well, in action or static.
One more...
On the road. Jerry was pushing a lot faster than I expected, so it was a bit diffcult to get them both in one frame.
Small hill slowed them enough for another shot. They looked nice and smooth. I wish I had my bike with me to tag along.
Jerry getting ready to shift into high gear. Penny was back a ways, but we could hear her clearly, somehow.
Penny always looks so good on a bike. I first rode with her in 1994 or so and she hasn't lost any style points.
9/19/2016: Monday morning walk with Penny, Jerry, Sally, and Yvonne at Furman University. Sally will have to remind me what these berries are...
Jerry dropped us. He didn't wait unless Penny convinced him to show mercy on us struggling in the heat.
Nice morning circumnavigation of the lake.
A pause to check out the white and black swans.
Finally got the couple to get into my camera frame.
Furman with Paris Mountain behind.
Great Blue Heron
No doubt where we spent the weekend.
A huge thanks to Sally for having us and to Penny and Jerry for spending the weekend with us.
